Water quality in the City of Maxixe - Mozambique - Salubrix (2025-2028)
The University of Brescia, through CeTAmb—the Research Centre on Appropriate Technologies for Environmental Management in Resource-Limited Countries—contributes to the SALUBRIX project by providing technical and scientific support for the development and improvement of water services in the city of Maxixe.
The University’s contribution focuses on assessing and strengthening drinking-water supply, treatment, quality control and distribution systems. The aim is to identify appropriate and sustainable technical solutions suited to the local context that improve the population’s access to safe water.
Planned activities include:
Providing technical and scientific support for the development and improvement of drinking-water treatment systems, particularly by assessing the performance of the river-water treatment plant and the effectiveness of its treatment processes.
Monitoring microbiological water quality in supply and distribution systems, assessing associated risks and identifying potential improvements.
Conducting studies on Maxixe’s urban and peri-urban water systems, examining existing supply infrastructure, water quality and the population’s access to water.
Carrying out technical missions and fieldwork in Maxixe to support local authorities, collect data and monitor project activities.
Providing training and capacity building for technical staff from local authorities and water-service operators to strengthen their skills in water-supply management, quality control and maintenance.
Collaborating with the local university, UNISAVE, on research, training and scientific exchanges concerning sustainable water-resource management and water, sanitation and hygiene (WASH) services.
Through these activities, the University of Brescia helps strengthen the local water-supply system by promoting sustainable technical solutions, improving water quality and developing local expertise, while supporting scientific cooperation between Italy and Mozambique.
